Joleen started her PhD in January 2017 at the Center for Computer Game Research. She takes part in the Making Sense of Games project funded by the ERC Advanced Grant. Within this project, her PhD research focuses on establishing a framework for what game characters are. She holds an MA in Media and Performance Studies from Utrecht University and a BA in Japanese Studies from Leiden University.
Research interests include stories and narrative in digital games, game characters and their transmedia appearances, and the Japanese media mix.<
