REAL wins big at GECCO and ALife 2018

Members of the REAL Lab presented a number of works at this year’s editions of the GECCO and ALife conferences and came home with a handful of awards:

  • Best student paper award, 2018 Conference on Artificial Life, for Frank Veenstra, Pablo González de Prado Salas, Josh Bongard, Kasper Støy and Sebastian Risi: Intrinsic Mortality Governs Evolvability.
  • Best paper award in the DETA+THEORY+GECH track, Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO 2018). for Vanessa Volz, Jacob Schrum, Jialin Liu, Simon M. Lucas, Adam M. Smith, Sebastian Risi: Evolving Mario Levels in the Latent Space of a Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Network.
  • Distinguished Young Investigator award 2018 from the International Society for Artificial Life for Sebastian Risi
